Door Posts

God’s Promise – The Blood frees us from destruction.

Door Posts symbolize the entry way to the inner sanctuary. 1 Kings 6:31. The inner sanctuary during the Old Testament (OT) was the inside of the Tabernacle. Today it is symbolic and includes our home and our being because the Holy Spirit indwells in each of us. We are the inner sanctuary where the Holy Spirit resides, as are our homes.

The doorposts were covered in blood in the OT to warn the spirit of destruction, sent by the Lord to pass the houses identified by the blood symbolizing the blood of Jesus. Exodus 12:7.

The symbolic blood means – no destructive plague can touch you or your home. It was also the forecast of the shedding of Jesus’ blood for us through his crucifixion. Jesus’ blood freed us from our sin and gave us a new life in Him. Putting the blood on the doorposts also symbolizes your faith in God.

The Pharisees often fastened small cases containing inscriptions on the doorposts of the Synagogues. The New Testament gave us the authority to command things to change in the Name of Jesus.

Doors are also a sign of deliverance from bondage, the doorposts frame the doors so they can stand erect and stable.

Placing inscriptions on the doorposts symbolizes deliverance by closing the door of oppression and slavery to our flesh and earthly ways to redemption in Christ.

These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the door-frames of your houses and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:6-9, NIV

As Christians we often look at symbolism as just that. God often uses symbolism as a tangible tool to gauge our dependence on and obedience to Him.

Note – Doorpost image, the scribe suggested using white duck tape and a permanent marker to scribe verses on the doorposts.

Renewable Spirit

God’s Promise – I will renew your spirit day by day.

What a blessing, the inward man is renewed daily. Our lives are temporal, but our spirit is eternal. Despite what lies before us, the internal hidden man of the heart, the new man is in a prosperous condition; our souls are in good health; the work of God is comfortably carried on in us; we have sweet and repeated experiences of the love of God; we are growing in grace, and in the knowledge of Christ; and, like the palm tree, the more weight is hung upon it, the more it thrives; and, like the children of Israel in Egypt, the more they were afflicted the more they grew.
